What To Do When Your Sprinter Drops Into Limp Mode
Updated 2026-02-23
If your Sprinter suddenly loses power, it has entered limp mode to protect itself. Get out of traffic safely, and if it is safe, a restart sometimes clears a one-time glitch. If it returns, do not keep driving on it. Limp mode means a stored fault that needs a Xentry scan.
Respond safely
Ease out of fast traffic. The van will still move but with reduced power, so plan your exit rather than forcing acceleration.
Common causes
Turbo actuator faults, boost leaks, emissions faults, and transmission conductor plate issues are the usual triggers on a Sprinter.
Get it scanned
A recurring limp mode has a stored cause. We read the fault, test the system, and fix it rather than just clearing the code.
